- Reserve your ceremony and reception site(s) at least one year ahead of time if you are planning a May or June wedding. Getting married in less popular months such as January and November will save you money on venues and hotels.
- Hire a wedding planner even if it’s just to coordinate the wedding day events, so that everyone in the bridal party will know where to stand and when to make their entrance and exit.
- Choose one or several bridal registries. The most popular are Target, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, and Tiffany’s. Select items in various price categories.
- Print out directions to the ceremony, reception, rehearsal dinner and hotel(s) for out of town guests. If you live in a resort area, include brochures of good restaurants and local attractions for your guests to enjoy the day before or after the wedding.
- Schedule an appointment with your dentist if you’d like to have your teeth whitened before the wedding.
- Avoid falling in love with a wedding gown that is too short or too long because it will add the most expense to the overall price of the gown.
- Include some aspect of your and your fiancé’s heritage into the wedding ceremony.
- Remember deceased loved ones at the bottom of your wedding program.
- Delegate jobs such as carrying wedding gifts, mailing invitations, making wedding favors and arranging centerpieces to family and friends.
- Verify that you have all necessary travel documents including passports and visas at least 6 months before your honeymoon.
